HISTORY

Originally built in the 1800’s, The Wanskuck Company was founded in 1862 by Jesse Metcalf, Henry J. Steere and Stephen J. Olney to manufacture woolens and worsted clothing. This mill was built partly because of the scarcity of cotton cloth in the North during the Civil War. The mill building was acquired by a subsidiary owned and operated by Premier Land Company and has gone through a major and amazing transformation in the City of Providence’s historic North End.

Premier Land Development was the leading firm in the assemblage of land and site development of the Citizens Bank World Headquarters located in Johnston, Rhode Island.  Premier Land Development was able to assemble a winning team to provide one the largest construction projects in the State’s history and completed the project in record time.  Premier Land Development, in a joint venture with Diprete Engineering, Dimeo Construction and DiGregorio corporation, delivered a state-of the-art-facility that spans over 123 acres.  Premier Land Development provided infrastructure improvements along Greenville Avenue, including the extension of sewer lines into the area by the Narragansett Bay Commission and the construction of a new exit for the interstate 295.  Premier Land Development was also the recipient of the EBC James D.P. PREMIER LAND DEVELOPMENT ENTERS THE RENEWABLE ENERGY MARKET WITH A 4 MEGA WATT SOLAR PROJECT

Four Megawatt Solar Farm

Premier Land Development along with its subsidiary: Hartford Solar Holdings, LLC recently combined efforts to develop and construct one of the largest solar projects in Rhode Island, a 4,057 kW DC ground-mounted solar system located in the Town of Johnston.

The clean energy generated by these arrays will significantly reduce the electric bills of the Cranston Public Schools in Cranston, RI through the transfer of net metering credits.  The agreement between the school district and Premier allows the district to receive energy credits on their utility bill from the remotely located installation.  The project was met with outstanding support from the local community.

Premier Land Development will serve as the developer for the project, which is estimated to produce approximately 5.3 million energy credits in its first year of operation.  “Premier Land Development was welcomed with open arms in the town of Johnston and is pleased to work with the Cranston Public Schools, and the Town of Johnston to bring clean, renewable and affordable energy to the local community,” said Attorney John O. Mancini, General Counsel to Premier Land Development, who was instrumental in obtaining the necessary approvals for the project.
